GORYO DOG-TEST SAMPLE PAGES

Description

A lot of you are waiting for Goryo Dog and probably art want to see the trials and errors and "groundwork" that is going into this project. Obviously, because there is an art book coming out, I can't spoil you guys TOO much. ;) BUT I can at least show you the process I went through to get "approved" for the job. Let's begin.

The first 5 pages (in red) were the original sample pages and I managed to crank them out fairly quick. The catch is, that because I went so fast, there were all sorts of errors and messes that were to be fixed. I definitely was able see the flaws and made attempts to better my pencils. They also wanted me to take out the speech bubbles and leave the sound effects to the lettering dude... So I did. The art director ask that I do another page and this time, "slow down" which I did. and I redid the 3 page you see in red as what you see on the 6th page. This was an improvement from the previous samples and came out "too stiff" in my opinion because I was following the script and this was new to me. I was then told that although it was good I lost some of the "energy" the previous set had. So, I asked if I could have a have more fun and play with the panels and camera in the next 5 samples. The offer was approved and I had more control. These pages were basically a mix of the previous page and first 5 pages before that. Eventhough, they aren't perfect, they were good enough to get the job and showed potential. So I was hired. Also, if you look you can see the growth that occured in really only 3 weeks time. I have to grasp certain things like perspective and things like that at an even faster pace now. Also, having to go back and make revisions back to back is making my work increase greatly. I'm grateful to be able to start working after only attending SCAD for one year. It's truly a blessing and I hope to return there someday once the work cools off. :)

I gotta say though, I'm loving the pressure. It's different and fascinating jumping into the professional field so quickly. In class, there's usually that guy that's best and there's a standard to beat. Now, it's like... Wow...I'm among the big dogs (No pun attended) now... I gotta step it up...QUICK. Oh what? Two years to get really good with watercolor or marker? MASTER IT IN A MONTH. (Not even) What I'm trying to say is, you have to step your game up very fast and you can't look back. No negative thoughts, no, "I can't do it...or...I'm not experienced in that area" Yeah no... You grab your balls and move forward. At least, that's what this experience has been. It's like... "Okay, these are the SAMPLE pencils...Now that I'm BEING PAID to do this, I HAVE to step it up and DO EVEN BETTER." So, all of those pages you are just the trials and errors of how this is coming to life. I hope that you guys keep your eyes open for Goryo Dog as well as my other projects I have in development. :) Take care.
